Born in Auckand went to school in Parnel. Apprenticed to a boot maker. Early 1912 was hotel manger at Toka Toka until 1918 and bought a farm in Ararua. Worked the farm and did work as carpenter to supplement farm. Took position on local council, was responsible for getting roading in Ararua metaled and in mid 1930 took a position in the Nortern Eletric Power Board and worked in getting power extended out into the smaller districts. At some time about the time he was on the council he became a J P. About 1938/39 he stopped farming and his son Bill took over some of the running of the farm amd his wife helped with the milking until his youngest daughter married and her husband ran the farm until he went into the army. Son Bill ran the farm. He moved from Ararua about 1942 and with his wife moved to Blockhouse Bay to live with his wifes mother and care for her. He sold the farm about 1950. About 1964/5 he bought a house in 38 Hooks Road Manurewa, his wife sold the Blockhouse Bay house and they moved to Manurewa and lived there for the rest of their lives.
